The Ekirei (station bell) is a bronze bell issued to official officials (Ekishi) dispatched from central government offices to regional areas under the ancient Japanese Ritsuryo system, serving as proof of eligibility to use horses (Ekiba). It was used to request the use of horses, and the bell was rung as the official traveler journeyed.
