Shino Tenmoku Green tea bowl, Japanese vintage CHAWAN, handmade Matcha Tea Cup Tea Ceremony ceramic with Wood box signature H3.1xW4.9in
Temmoku tea bowls are a type of Chinese black glazed pottery that originated in the Jian kiln during the Song dynasty. They are highly prized for their lustrous black glaze and unique patterns, such as oil-spot and rainbow-like iridescence. Temmoku tea bowls are highly regarded as the finest vessels in Japanese tea ceremony. Three out of the four known Temmoku tea bowls in Japan have been designated as National Treasure.
This tea bowl was made by a modern potter "Jin Kato" who run Mino kiln in Gifu prefecture. Mino has a long history and invented a lot of glazes and white glaze called "Shino" is one of them. This glaze shows dynamically different colors and textures depending on thickness and fire temperature such as white-spot and reddish color. Generally Tenmoku tea bowls are only black glazed, this tea bowl gives an unique impression on the traditional way.
