This Vintage Seto Karatsu tea bowl is a Japanese tea bowl crafted for the tea ceremony, featuring a distinctive whale skin pattern that enhances its traditional appeal. Measuring 2.4 inches in height and 6.1 inches in width (6 cm × 15.6 cm), this flat chawan design offers a perfect shape for summer tea drinking, delivering an elegant and authentic experience. Made during the Taisho period by pottery master Yamaguchi Jotetsu (1920-1999), this handmade ceramic cup showcases feldspar white glaze over aged clay texture, combining durability with refined aesthetics.

The Seto Karatsu tea bowl features a feldspar white glaze with characteristic cracks throughout, creating a unique aged look that tea enthusiasts appreciate. Its whale skin pattern, inspired by the natural coloring of whale skin, adds artistic value and historical significance. The black glaze on the mouth and the triangular unpainted mark inside emphasize its handcrafted nature. This vintage matcha cup weighs 7.4 ounces (211 grams) and comes boxed in an original wooden box signed by the artist, ensuring authenticity and protection.
