This is a set of a wooden rice storage box with red lacquer finish and its stand, made during the Taisho era. In Japan, rice cooked in traditional kilns was transferred to containers like this for storage. This is called an “お櫃 ohitsu.”
As it is not intended for holding water, it is also recommended for use as a small item storage box.
This stand, also called an ozen, can be used to hold dishes, sake sets, tea sets, and more.
It features a thick, solid lacquer coating and is meticulously crafted.
There is no significant damage, and it is ready for immediate use.
