Set of wooden trays made by craftsman in Gifu prefecture with technique called as Shunkei lacquer. Though Japanese lacquer contains color such as black, red, green and so on, Shunkei lacquer is particularly transparent. This enables to show both painted colors and wood's grain and texture, giving a more tactile impression of its softness. This is originally designed for tea ceremony where various kinds of meals on small plates and bowls on a tray is served for a guest individually. Ideal size and depth for tea set with some light meal and sweets.
