Known as “sake cup 盃 sakazuki” in Japan, they come in a variety of patterns, making them popular to collect and enjoy.
Calligraphy in the center says "A smart person is thrifty person". This words are from Eiichi Shibusawa, a figure who had a tremendous influence on the modernization of Japan's capitalism. His signature and date of 1923 are below. This cup was given by a newspaper company to an employee to celebrate their 20 years of service.
It comes in a wooden box, making it an ideal gift.
