The Legend of Taimadera & the Lotus:
Taimadera is world-renowned for the legend of Princess Chujo (Chujo-hime), who is said to have woven the magnificent "Taima Mandala" (a map of the Pure Land Paradise) using lotus fibers in a single night. This bell, shaped as a blooming lotus, is a direct tribute to this miraculous story. In Buddhism, the lotus blooms pure from the mud, representing the soul’s journey to enlightenment.

A Protective Earthy Sound:
This "Doren" (earth bell) is an authentic souvenir from this ancient sanctuary. Unlike the sharp ring of metal, its unglazed clay body produces a soft, grounding sound that resonates with the energy of the earth. Since the Edo period, these bells have been used as Engimono (good luck charms) to clear negative energy and invite the peaceful atmosphere of the "Pure Land" into one's home.

Condition & Wabi-Sabi Character:
Good Vintage Condition. The base is clearly inscribed with "當麻寺" (Taimadera), marking its sacred provenance. The hand-painted, earthy brown tones have mellowed beautifully over time, showing light signs of age that contribute to its authentic "Wabi-Sabi" charm.
