It is in very good condition and clean, so it is ready to use.
In Japan, the part where the tobacco is packed is called the 雁首GAN-KUBI(goose neck). It comes with a wooden box, making it a great gift idea. It is delicately made of bamboo and brass.
In the Edo period (1603-1867), tayu (prostitutes) in the Yoshibara and other Omise (high class female prostitutes) had wider sashes as they rose in rank.
