In Japan, it has long been believed that ringing bells to summon the gods serves a purifying purpose. In this sense, bells are tools connecting humans to the divine in Japan and hold significant meaning.
At many shrines, a large bronze bell hangs at the center of the worship hall. Alongside this bell, hemp ropes and red-and-white or five-colored cloths are hung, and worshippers swing these to ring the bell. It is like a signal for prayer.
This bell is very large and has a strong presence. There is a dent on the upper part, but it does not affect its function. It possesses a well-used charm and an atmosphere of aging.
While this bell can simply be displayed, hanging it and ringing it deepens its meaning.
Hanging it as decoration at a store entrance is also recommended.
