Bizen ware boasts an ancient history, holding its place as one of Japan's Six Old Kilns. Unique to Bizen, the ceramics are fired without glaze; instead, the ashes from the kiln fire drift onto the pieces, creating a natural glaze (shizen-yu) that reveals diverse, unexpected expressions.This process rediscovers the primal joy of pottery: a celebration of spontaneous transformation and wabi-sabi simplicity. The marks left by the potter's wheel, the sweep of the spatula, and small, playful decorative touches all convey a sense of pure enjoyment, reflecting the artist's unadulterated pleasure in kneading the clay and shaping the form.

備前Bizen ware is a type of pottery produced in Okayama Prefecture.
From the Kofun Period (mid 3rd century to 7th century) to the Heian Period (794 to 1185), the roots of Bizen Pottery, called Sue ware, were scattered throughout the prefecture. During the Kamakura period (1185-1333), brown pottery, as we know it today, began to be fired. The firing method allows sufficient oxygen to enter the kiln, resulting in a warm color. The natural beauty of the clay is beautiful because it is fired hard without glaze. Another reason for its popularity is that the color changes in the kiln, and no two pieces are alike. It is said that the more the potter uses it, the more the color will change and become more durable.

Signature is carved at the bottom and stored in a dedicated wooden box which is suitable for a gift.
