This is a ceramic ware called "高取焼Takatori ware".
Takatori ware is one of the pottery favored by one of 利休 Rikyu's disciples, 小堀遠州 Kobori Enshu. It was introduced to Japan by potters from the Korean peninsula during the Warring States periodIt has been produced for more than 1,000 years in a kiln in 福岡 Fukuoka Prefecture. The main characteristic of Takatori ware is the use of seven-color glazes. In addition to the deeply flavored glazes, even though it is a ceramic, it produces a high pitched sound like porcelain when you play it with your fingers. This is despite the fact that the glaze is applied in layers, the thickness is very thin. It requires such a high level of skill that Japanese potters say, 'Takatori is the only one I don't want to imitate.

This ochoko (sake cup) features four motifs often utilized in Takatori ware. The exterior showcases the striped pattern , while the interior is adorned with cascading glazes in white, brown, and yellow. By combining patterns that are traditionally applied only one per piece, this design highlights the broad range of Takatori ware variations while achieving a harmonious aesthetic.

When pouring sake into this cup and slightly shifting the drinking edge, you can enjoy various "sceneries" (keshiki) within the glaze, making your delicious sake experience even more enjoyable
