Japanese vintage Mizusashi jar with Two types of lids ceramic kiln craft For Tea ceremony "Shino" with signed W5.4in/W13.8cm

This is one of the tools of the tea ceremony and is called a 水指mizusashi. It is a vessel used to add water to the tea kettle and to store water for washing tea bowls and tea whisks.
Like tea bowls, there are various types of mizusashi, and you can enjoy changing the item you use from time to time depending on the tea bowl, the season, and your taste. 
The appeal lies in the two lids included in the set. One lid is made of clay, while the other is crafted from wood and lacquer. Simply switching the lid dramatically changes the impression, allowing for a wide range of enjoyment.

Shino glaze primarily uses finely ground feldspar stone. Due to its high melting point, it requires firing at high temperatures for extended periods within the kiln. This highly viscous glaze produces finished pieces with a substantial thickness and a milky white appearance. Areas where the glaze is insufficiently applied reveal glimpses of the clay body's color. This is also part of its charm.
