This is one of the tools of the tea ceremony and is called a 水指mizusashi. It is a vessel used to add water to the tea kettle and to store water for washing tea bowls and tea whisks.
Like tea bowls, there are various types of mizusashi, and you can enjoy changing the item you use from time to time depending on the tea bowl, the season, and your taste.
This is a celadon water jar with a lid made of wood and lacquer. Floral or plant-like patterns are incised on the sides, over which the glaze is applied thickly.
The maker's signature is inscribed on the back. It is in excellent condition and ready for immediate use.
