Japanese vintage hanging scroll, printed Chinese poetry by "Chokei", hanging scroll KAKEJIKU H78.7xW29.1in / 200x74cm

This is a printed hanging scroll and recommended to enjoy casually in the interior of the shop or in the room.

This hanging scroll show a poetry by "張継 Chokei" born in the 8th century in China. He is not as popular as Rihaku or Toho, this poetry has been famous here in Japan over centuries.

The title is "楓橋夜泊", meaning "staying for a night beside a river where a maple tree grows".
The poetry reads as following,

As night deepens, the moon tilts and falls into the western sky, and the night air is enveloped in darkness. A lone cry of a night bird pierces the silence... The winter sky, as if sprinkled with a frost falling from the heavens, grows ever more chilling.
The maple trees along the riverbank are crimson, and the fishing fires of the boats flicker faintly. Loneliness gnaws at me as I lie awake in my unfamiliar lodgings.
Beyond the walls of Gusu City, there must be a secluded mountain temple. The sound of its bell, tolling the midnight hour, reaches even to the guest ship where I am staying...
