This jar is remarkably powerful and striking. Handcrafted by the artist during the Showa era, it bears an engraved signature. Although details about the specific artist remain unknown, the piece is a magnificent, distinctive work—influenced by Old Karatsu ware and the Mingei (folk craft) movement—featuring bold glazing and a form that is both free-flowing and expansive.

The coloration presents a gradient ranging from deep brown to a dark, almost blackish-brown; the complex, shifting hues defy simple description. A glaze with whitish tones appears across the surface, forming patterns that feel entirely unforced—suggesting the artist sought a finish that emerged as naturally as possible rather than through deliberate design.

Two large "ear" handles flank the sides, giving the piece a lifelike quality. With its organic shape and subtle indentations along the sides, it possesses a truly unique character.

The piece has acquired a beautiful, mellow sheen and color tone over time. It makes a captivating display item for a shelf or cabinet—one with an appeal that transcends borders—and comes highly recommended.
