Japanese vintage hand paint and block printing art of Tale of Genji/ transverse flute with Kanji Kimono Design H8.1×W12.2in/H20.5×W31cm.

It is based on one of the stories of the Heian period, The Tale of Genji. The Tale of Genji describes the life and love of aristocrats in the Heian period.
The story is called “横笛 Yokobue (transverse flute)” This story is written on the first anniversary of the death of a member of the royal family named Kashiwagi, until the Yokobue, a flute that 柏木 Kashiwagi bequeathed, passes from person to person to reach 光源氏 Hikaru Genji.
The background is uniquely switched in the center of the entire painting.
The overall atmosphere is somewhat melancholy. The transverse flute is drawn in the upper right corner. On the left side, a noren (bamboo blind) is swaying in the wind. Beyond it, a series of crane-like birds are depicted. On the right side are small flowers.
