Japanese vintage Furniture wooden black lacquer round fruit cake stand pedestal, URUSHI craft Japanese tableware 1920s H9.1×10in/H23×15.5cm.

This is a pedestal made of wood and lacquer.
Originally, it was called "餅台Mochidai" in Japan, and was used to put food on at temples, shrines, and when people of high rank had meals.
餅Mochi is a preserved food made from rice. Mochi used to be very precious in Japan. Therefore, there is a custom of offering mochi to the gods and Buddha. In such cases, these pedestals are used at altars and other places.
It was also used by aristocrats to place sweets and other sweets on the tatami when eating. A tray with low legs, called an お膳ozen, plays a similar role.

In modern times, it is recommended to place cakes or fruits on this tray to entertain guests at the table. The simple and beautiful shape of the tray matches any atmosphere.
It can also be used as a pedestal for displaying dolls and other items.

Since everything is handmade, there are distortions and color changes over time in the upper tray portion. It is not at a level that poses a problem for use.
