FINE! Japanese vintage furniture Byobu wind screen of Dragon with ink painting, with sign impressive hand painting H69.3in/H176cm.

This is a magnificent folding screen with a dragon pattern. The powerful dragon is beautifully depicted.
It is boldly painted in ink wash style.
The dragon, like the qilin, is a mythical creature that originated in China. There is no other creature that has captivated the Japanese people for so long, even though it does not exist and no one has ever seen it.
The dragon, which has been incorporated into the architecture and decoration of temples and other structures since ancient times, has been cherished in Japan as a symbol of good fortune. It is revered as the god of water, the god of abundance, and a symbol of rising fortune.
In this painting, the dragon is depicted holding a jewel called a “treasure sphere,” which is said to grant wishes, with its sharp claws.
Unfortunately, the details of the artist are unknown, but the painting skill is remarkable and impressive.
The painting was created around the 1970s. There are some stains, age-related dirt, and small tears in the upper corners of the painting, but there is no major damage overall. The frame around it is made of simple wood.
The back has numerous tears and repair marks, and there is dirt, stains, and tears throughout, but there is no major damage that would interfere with use. It can be displayed or used immediately.

This is a piece of furniture called a “屏風 byobu” in Japan. It is a type of decorative furniture used to divide rooms, consisting of a wooden frame with multiple sheets of paper or other materials attached to it, which can be folded.
It is believed to have originated in China, and folding screens have a long history, having already existed in China during the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) as a windbreak. In Japan, during the Muromachi period (1336–1573), many folding screens featuring ink paintings and vibrant colors were produced.

Simply placing a folding screen can completely transform the atmosphere of a space, and since it can be folded for storage, it is extremely convenient.
