Japanese vintage cast iron metal Lantern, garden lamp, Buddhist Hanging Lantern furniture Tsuridoro Andon with Pine Bamboo fretwork H10.2in/H26cm.

This is a rusty iron lantern. This is called a 灯籠 TOURO lantern.
Since they were used outdoors, they are quite rusty, but that gives them a nice atmosphere.
The sides are designed with openwork of pine trees and bamboo.
It is even more beautiful when the door can be opened to let light in.
There is a hole in the umbrella to let electric wires through. It can be placed in the garden or hung for decoration.

In Japan, chochin are not just lights, but have Buddhist connotations.
In Buddhism, “Miakari” is believed to ward off evil spirits, and the custom of lighting a fire in front of the Buddha has been handed down to the present day. It also has the meaning of guiding the deceased so that they will not be lost in the afterlife.
In Japan, they are displayed in temples, inns, and Japanese gardens. The overall rusty color creates a cool atmosphere.
