Japanese vintage buddhist Prayer Rosary Koya cedar wooden beads and silk tassels, Shingon sect, JUZU Power stone Meditation Zen with wood box
These beads are made from old Koyasugi wood that has spent many years together beside the precincts of 高野山 Koyasan, the sacred site of the Shingon sect of Buddhism, where Kobo Daishi's mausoleum is located. The slightly reddish, glossy wood surface becomes more beautiful the more it is used. Koyasan is considered a place with special powers.
Wearing beads made of familiar wood makes you feel that Buddha and sutras are close at hand.
This bracelet, called juzu, is a Buddhist altar with many small beads with holes in them threaded through the rings.
