Japanese vintage 1970s KUTANI Cochin ware porcelain incense burner blue dragons deep purple For GIFT H5.1×5.5in/H13×14cm .
This incense burner is a type of 九谷 Kutani-yaki pottery called 交趾焼ko-chi yaki. It was originally made in an old kiln in southern China. These kilns were introduced to Japan after the Nara period (710-794) and gradually began to produce incense burners. This is a reprint of an old item, but it is very well made and beautiful. The most characteristic feature of this item is the dark, brightly colored glaze. The entire piece is a deep purple with blue glaze on the handles and the lion on the top. The flower-like pattern in yellow is also impressive. This is signed not only on the back of the body, but also on the lid and inside the censer. The artist is 清章 Seisho (1946-). He has won many contemporary art exhibitions for his Kutani pottery.
