This is a very beautiful and old copper bell.
It is heavy and has a strong presence.

This motif is a small Noh mask.
A 小面KOOMOTE mask is a mask of a young woman, and has a youthful and beautiful atmosphere. The eyes on the left and right sides of the mask have slightly different expressions, as if they are smiling or melancholy.
The definition of beauty has always changed over time, but around the Heian period (794-1185), Japanese women were favored for their slightly fuller cheeks, smaller mouths, and elongated eyes. In the Heian period, Japanese women had slightly fuller cheeks, smaller mouths and longer, narrower eyes. This bell is a good representation of these characteristics.
