Collectors prize the Hagi ware matcha bowl for its distinctive kairagi "plum‑blossom skin" glaze and Ido shape, a Japanese ceramic bowl that softens and deepens in character as tea soaks into its porous clay. This chawan tea bowl is made of beige Hagi clay beneath a white glaze, signed and presented in a marked wooden box for storage or gifting. The surface shows the fine crackle and granular texture associated with Hagi-yaki's nanabake transformations, making it suitable for an authentic tea ceremony or daily matcha preparation while complementing wabi sabi decor and artisan tea ware collections and everyday household enjoyment.
Product details
This Japanese teacup is an authentic Hagi-yaki matcha bowl formed in the Ido shape, historically associated with Korean-Japanese tea ware but crafted here in Japan. The white glaze partially contracts during firing to create the kairagi effect: a subtle, granular crackle that invites touch and visual appreciation. Because the clay retains microscopic pores, the bowl will patinate and change tone with repeated use, reflecting the Hagi concept of nanabake.
