In Japan, it has long been believed that the ringing of a bell is meant to invoke and purify the gods. In this sense, the bell is a tool to connect with the gods and has an important meaning in Japan.
This is a local folk craft made in Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is based on a bird called the crane, which is a popular bird in Japan. The word Kotobuki (longevity) is engraved on the back. The crane, a symbol of congratulations, and the character Kotobuki also seem to bring good fortune.
In any case, ceramic bells are recommended as Christmas ornaments and look lovely just by displaying them.
