Japanese old watercolor painting scroll, seafood and vegetable ,early 19th hanging scroll Kakejiku with signature and BOX H47.6in /121cm
This hanging scroll is a little unique in its subject matter.
It depicts Japanese tiger shrimp, clam and Chinese cabbage. People usually decorates their rooms with calligraphy or paintings which reflects the seasons. But all the motifs are from different seasons, shrimp from summer, clam from spring and cabbage from winter. Though it is already difficult to discern the painter's intent, words on it may give a clue. 錦谷作於清華荘 means the painter drew this in a villa in the countryside.
The painter named as "錦谷 Kinkoku" was born in 1901 and left a lot of works in Osaka.
