Japanese old "SUISEKI" scholars stone AMINISM, indoor viewing stone with a hand carved pedestal Power stone H7.9xW5.5xD3.5in/20x14x9cm
"Suiseki" is a Japanese culture or hobby of viewing stones indoors.
This culture came from China in the 12th century, and getting popular among noble and samurai society.
They preferred and collected stones which resembles mountain and made a small landscape scenery in a tray filled with water. It has something in common with "bonsai" and "suiseki" are also displayed in "tokonoma", an alcove in a traditional Japanese room where art pieces are displayed.
Though it is popular to pick up stones as suiseki which remind them of mountain, this stone was selected from a different point of view. Far long ago before suiseki culture came, in the age of hunting society, people believe in Aminism, the belief that all things have a spirit. This concept later formed Shintoism. In this Japanese Aminism, stones especially megaliths were worshiped as idols and where they were found became sacred sites. People also put on small stones which reminds of idols in alters in their village or home. This stone tells about the culture ten thousands years ago.
The pedestal was fixed to the stone and can not be separated.
