Japanese old hanging paper lantern Candle holder with the shrine name "chouchin"Kanji 御祭禮thanksgiving, prayer calligraphy W14.2in/W36cm.

This paper and wood lantern has "御祭禮Gosaire" written in Kanji characters on the front. The word 祭matsuri (festival) in these characters means the act (儀式ritual) of worshipping gods, Buddha, and ancestors for thanksgiving, prayer, and consolation. Offerings and other things are offered. These lanterns are used for this purpose.
Both sides have the family crest. One of the crests is a design of an oak leaf 五つ柏紋. In the old days, food was served on oak leaves and used as tableware. Since they were offered to the gods, the oak came to be regarded as a “sacred tree. It is said that the first to use the Kashiwa crest were priests who were dedicated to shrines, and it is still a family crest widely seen among priests today.
It also comes with a tassel underneath.
LED candles can be inserted and enjoyed immediately.

Some tears and stains on paper. There is no major damage that would make it problematic to use.
