Japanese Noren curtain with a family crest and waves, 100% linen, interior, wall hanging H57.5×42.1in/H146×107cm

This 暖簾 noren is a re-production of traditional Japanese curtains used in machiya townhouses during the Showa era. It's deadstock, unused, and in excellent condition.
It's a luxurious item made from 100% linen, with a beautiful sheerness. However, the dyeing is different from older items.
Traditional Japanese wooden houses, known as machiya, are designed to provide comfort during the summer, with ventilation being a top priority. Rooms are separated by sliding doors made of wood and paper, but in the summer, the sliding doors are removed and replaced with bamboo blinds, sudare blinds, and noren curtains. Noren curtains are easily pushed back, providing privacy while blocking out noise, making them useful in areas with high foot traffic.

This family crest is based on the paulownia tree. Since ancient times, the paulownia has been considered an auspicious tree on which the phoenix resides, and is considered a sacred plant. Originally the crest of the imperial family, it became popular after being bestowed upon distinguished subjects.
The top is sewn into a loop, allowing you to easily attach it anywhere by inserting a thin rod (rod not included).
