This vase is made of 常滑 Tokoname ware.
This teapot is made from a type of clay called “朱泥 shudei/ red clay” that is rich in iron and sourced from the Tokoname region of Aichi Prefecture. It is fired without glaze, a technique commonly used to make teapots.
This is a small brazier made in a Tokoname ware kiln called Jinshu. We recommend putting ashes inside and burning incense. It comes with an original copper fire tongs that can be placed in the hole.
A distinctive feature is the very fine characters engraved on it. While the full meaning of the words is unknown, they convey the history of Tokoname ware and the mindset of the maker.
It also comes with a wooden box, making it a great gift.
