The beauty of green glaze is known in Japan as Oribe green.
Oribe ware originated from pottery created by 古田織部 Furuta Oribe, a disciple of Rikyu, the founder of the tea ceremony, and a military commander during the Momoyama period (1573–1603).
This plate, also called an “向付 Mukoutsuke” is often used in Japanese 懐石 kaiseki cuisine to serve sashimi and other dishes.
However, I think it would also be perfect as a sweets dish in the tea ceremony.
Its shape is unique, fan-like, and very intricate.
It features rich variation, such as partially openwork sections.
The patterns also have a playful quality; the green glaze and freely drawn lines, like a child's, are a fine point of Oribe ware.
Furthermore, the passage of time has deepened the color of the clay and the glaze, making it beautiful.
It comes in a wooden box, making it ideal as a gift.
