Japanese Bizen Ware Flower Vase: Signed Pottery for IKEBANA, Tea ceremony

備前Bizen ware is a type of pottery produced in Okayama Prefecture.
From the Kofun Period (mid 3rd century to 7th century) to the Heian Period (794 to 1185), the roots of Bizen Pottery, called Sue ware, were scattered throughout the prefecture. During the Kamakura period (1185-1333), brown pottery, as we know it today, began to be fired. The firing method allows sufficient oxygen to enter the kiln, resulting in a warm color. The natural beauty of the clay is beautiful because it is fired hard without glaze. Another reason for its popularity is that the color changes in the kiln, and no two pieces are alike. It is said that the more the potter uses it, the more the color will change and become more durable.

The various colors woven into each piece are captivating to the viewer. The reddish-brown and grayish-brown clay surface creates a beautiful natural gradation, emitting a vibrant color palette.
The simple form and playful colors enhance the flowers.
Not only are the color variations appealing, but the rough texture of the surface is also appealing. This technique is called "ash-carving," and the piece is fired in a climbing kiln. An inscription is engraved on the bottom of the kiln.
