This canister is used in tea ceremony to carry sweets before serving tea in February. In tea ceremony host hands over this canister filled with sweets such as rice cake to one of guests then a guest picks up a piece for himself with chopsticks then he passes the canister to the guest next to him.
It is lacquered in black and designed with gold lacquered Chinese characters, "笑門福来" which means fortune comes in by a merry gate. Chopstick are made from bamboo and one side is lacquered in gold as same as top edges of the canister.
Stored in a dedicate box with the title.
