This mirror was made in the late Edo period, around the 18th century.
The inscription reads, "中嶋和泉吉次 Nakajima Izumi Yoshitsugu," a mirror caster active in Kyoto from the end of the 17th century. He was also responsible for mirrors for influential daimyo of the time.

The design depicts a pair of cranes calling out to each other at the moment of their first meeting. Young pine trees are embossed around them. Pairs of cranes are also popular as a motif of marital harmony.
Until the Edo period, all mirrors in Japan were made of bronze, with the polished side decorated with embossed patterns, designs, or lettering on the other side.
The history of human-faced mirrors is long, and both in the East and the West, mirrors were frequently used for ceremonial purposes and were highly valued.
This mirror was made after such ceremonial mirrors began to be used for general practical purposes. In Japan, they are called "te-kagami" (hand mirrors). This style dates back to the Muromachi period, and the older the mirrors, the smaller they tend to be. This is because, as Edo prospered, courtesans' hairstyles became more flamboyant, increasing demand for mirrors that provided a wider field of vision, and mirrors therefore became larger. By this time, mirrors were no longer held in the hand, but were attached to a pedestal.
This mirror is quite old and is the size of the time when mirrors were still held in the hand, so it is thought to have been worn by a woman.
Although it has rusted and discolored over the years, it can be said to be a work of art that has been created with the passage of time.

It would look great hanging on the wall or placed on a pedestal.
