Japanese antique wood bucket with a handle and a double lid lacquered in black called OKE lunch box EDO craft H10×9.8in/H25.5×9.8cm.
This is a box called a tub made of fine quality made wood and lacquer.
Made in the late Edo period, it is thick, sturdy and beautiful because of the many layers of lacquer applied.
Since the lid divides into two parts, it can be used as a water container in the tea ceremony.
In those days, people took baskets like this one when shopping and carried vegetables, fish tofu, etc. in them.
In modern times, they can be used as interior decorations for storage, to hold sake or tea cups, or to hold sewing or painting tools. Or it can be used to carry sandwiches or lunch boxes during picnics.
