Japanese Antique sakazuki urushi sake set of 3 red gold lacquer MAKIE wooden sake cups with bards crane and pine trees 1800s.

Set of three beautiful sake cups and bases made of wood, lacquer and gold.
None of them have any major damage and are ready to use. They are painted in gold using a delicate and wonderful technique called maki-e.

This set was originally used at weddings, events, and other celebratory occasions.
In Japan, drinking sake with sake cups is called "sakazukigoto," and is meant to strengthen bonds between people who are not related by blood.
Since medieval times, people in Japan have deepened their bonds through the sharing of sake. In Japan, it was also used to unite revolts.

Basically, it is polite to drink all the sake that is poured.
In fact, it has been used to hold water and sometimes as a pedestal on which to place trophies.

Crane and pine tree design. The pine tree means longevity and lasting happiness in Japan. The crane has also been used in many wedding ceremonies as a symbol of marital bliss because once a couple becomes husband and wife, they will be together for the rest of their lives.
This sake cup was probably used for a wedding ceremony.
The picture drawn by a technique called maki-e, which uses lacquer and gold, is very delicate.
