Japanese antique furniture buddhist Black lacquer Small Chest of drawers TANSU, gold MAKIE jewelry box urushi 1890s H6.5×W8.1in/H16.5×20.5cm.

This was originally a Buddhist box that held offerings and tools for preparing the area around the altar. Mainly because oil was used as a lighting source at that time, the set includes a small pot and tongs for replenishing the oil. The top of the box has a lid and is divided into three sections. One of them is wrapped inside with coppers, which also served as a small incense burner with ashes. The set also includes all the small pots and tongs made of brass.
There are two drawers. The inside is also gilded and very beautiful. Until around the Edo period, tools like this were used on a daily basis. The handles and other parts of the box are delicate and beautifully made, so it is recommended as a box for storing accessories or other important items.
The lid and other parts of the box are decorated with the family crest in gold maki-e.

condition...
It is in good condition, but There are small scratches and dirt due to aging. The lacquer is peeling and scratched from age, but there is no major damage and it is ready to use.
There are some restoration marks on the inside of the lid. There is a crack on the bottom board, but there is no problem with use.

I list antiques that sometimes have chips, rubbings and cracks
as they are very old antiques so please check the images and understand the current
condition before buying.
