Japanese Antique EDO 1800s handcraft small plate, KINTUSGI porcelain ceramic dish Blue White relief pattern flower SOMETSUKE 4.3in/10.8cm.
This small dish was made in the late Edo period and is sold as a single piece, not as a set.
A technique called sometsuke, in which patterns are hand-painted in indigo color. This technique was often used for Imari ware.
This dish is very beautiful with very detailed hand-painted patterns.
This pattern is called MIJIN KARAKUSA /tiny arabesque. It is a type of arabesque, characterized by the fact that it is drawn in a way that it fills the entire surface. The older the age, the more carefully it is drawn.
Chips and other defects are repaired using the kintsugi technique.
All pieces are handmade, and each one is slightly different in shape.
Please enjoy the atmosphere of being used and the uniqueness of each piece.
Mame-dare is often used in Japanese kaiseki cuisine. For example, it is used to put pickles and condiments on. Japanese cuisine has a unique custom of serving dishes with different flavors on separate plates. This allows one to directly taste the flavor of each dish and ingredient. Another interesting aspect of Japanese cuisine is the ability to add seasonings and other ingredients on the spot to personalize the dish to one's own taste.
Another use is to put accessories in the bowl. This way of cooking is very popular in Japan.
