This is a beautiful copper incense burner in the shape of a peacock. 
Peacocks, not native to Japan, are believed to have originally come from China and Southeast Asia. However, their stunning beauty has long captivated the Japanese, a people who traditionally cherish nature's flora and fauna. Due to their habit of preying on venomous snakes and harmful insects, peacocks are also thought to possess the power to devour (and thus dispel) worldly desires, calamities, and poisons. This belief led to them becoming objects of worship, with numerous paintings and sculptures depicting Bodhisattvas and Wisdom Kings (Myōō) riding upon their backs.

While its feathers aren't spread, it retains its function as an incense burner while giving an impression of hidden beauty and sacredness. Every part—from its comb, neck, back, to its tail feathers—displays graceful, gentle curves that are a pleasure to behold, supported by seemingly delicate legs. The back, as a lid, has fine carvings and let smoke out. It is beautiful even if you just display it.
