This is an old 備前焼Bizen ware monkey figurine.
Many new Bizen ware dolls exist in Japan, but old figurines like this piece are valuable and popular in Japan. The colors have become cooler with age, and the monkey's unique slightly smiling expression is very unique.
It is holding a peach in its hand. This combination of peaches and monkeys is a traditional Chinese iconography that has been popular for a long time.
Peaches are believed to be a fruit that brings eternal life, as the seeds have medicinal properties, and the monkey taking the peach symbolizes longevity, as it removes bad luck.
The image of an aged monkey sitting on a stone, looking up slightly, has the aura of a human hermit.

The roots of Bizen ware can be traced back to the 古墳Kofun period in Japan. It is a pottery with a very long history, and 岡山Okayama Prefecture is a famous production center.
It is characterized by the ultimate simplicity of its pottery, which is not glazed or painted.
The pottery is fired at a high temperature of 1,200 to 1,300 degrees Celsius, and patterns are created by the properties of the clay, the way the kiln is filled, changes in kiln temperature, and the ashes and charcoal used during firing. The handmade, deep flavor of the pottery is its charm, and the more you use it, the deeper the color becomes.
This is not a major damage. It is inscribed in Kanji signature on the back.
