Japanese antique 1910s old BIZEN pottery small dolls pair of gods, Ebisu and Daikoku, good fortune figure, shrine amulet H3in/7.6cm.

These are made of 備前 Bizen ware, which is pottery that uses no glaze and makes use of the natural texture of the clay. They are a very dark brown color, and over the course of 100 years, they have developed a beautiful depth and luster. These are probably small in size, so they were probably carried around as talismans during travel or peddling.

恵比寿 Ebisu and 大黒 Daikoku are two of the most popular deities in Japanese folklore and are often worshipped as a pair. They are members of the Seven Lucky Gods (七福神　Shichifukujin) and are widely revered as symbols of prosperity, good fortune, and abundance.

Ebisu symbolizes the abundance of the sea and the good fortune that comes from diligence and fair trade. Daikoku symbolizes material wealth, abundant food, and prosperous households. He is often seen as the guardian deity of households and granaries.

What is particularly noteworthy is their gentle, smiling expressions. They are surprisingly soft and calm, and you can't help but smile back when you look at them.
