Japanese antique 1800s EDO small vase porcelain SAKE bottle old IMARI with arabesque pattern hand painting Sometsuke H6.1in/H15.5cm.
This form was originally used as a vase to hold sake and sakaki leaves for offerings to gods and Buddha at shrines and temples.
The design consists of spirally coiled vines with simplified leaves on the outside. It is commonly called the octopus arabesque pattern because it looks just like the suckers on the legs of an octopus.
The gentle coloring of this piece evokes a sense of time, and it is beautiful and compatible even when decorated with a single flower. This type of vase in good condition with no chips is very rare.
"KOIMARI" is limited to"Imari " ware made during the "Edo" period, and very popular in japan.
"IMARI" ware originated in China in the early 17th century.
"SOMETSUKE" is a porcelain painted with a pattern of indigo on a white background.
In this work, in addition to "SOMETSUKE" technique, glaze is layered to create a relief-like three-dimensional feeling.
Works that have a taste that passes over time.
