Japanese antique 1700s clay figurine Sitting and smiling Monkey doll statue animal ornament pottery statue hand craft H6.5in/H16.5cm.
This is a clay figure of a monkey made in the mid-Edo period. This is called 土人形Tsuchi-ningyo (a clay doll).
Many clay dolls of the Seven Deities of Good Fortune and other deities have been made, but this type of monkey is rare. The deep colors and textures that can only be produced with age are wonderful.
If you look closely, you can see that the hands are delicately made and the face is smiling. His cute and satisfied expression is very attractive.
The history of clay dolls is said to be long, dating back to prehistoric times, and they have been actively produced in many places, especially since the Edo period (1603-1868). Many of them have been made for prosperous business and for seasonal themes.

condition...
It is in very good condition. But there are small scratches and dirt due to aging.
There is a small splinter behind the ear, but it is not noticeable unless you look closely.
I list antiques that sometimes have chips, rubbings and cracks
as they are very old antiques so please check the images and understand the current
condition before buying.
