This is a type of tea kettle known as a 丸釜 Maru-gama, a traditional shape. As the name suggests, its defining feature is its overall rounded form. It is also one of the forms favored by Rikyu.
Designed for use with a furo brazier, its smaller size is unusual. Tea kettles come in various sizes; those for furo braziers are made smaller, allowing water to be boiled with less charcoal, making them ideal for summer. They are also recommended for use on modern, simpler braziers as they are easier to handle.

The lid, featuring a handle designed like a plum blossom, is made of copper and is delicate and beautiful. It has a hook ring, and the lid knob is also decorative. The signature of a craftsman "敬典 Keiten"  is on the body, with a wooden dedicated box.
Keiten Takahashi was a highly esteemed Japanese tea kettle master renowned for his exceptional craftsmanship in the traditional art of Yamagata casting. As a Living National Treasure, Takahashi dedicated his life to preserving and enhancing the art of creating tea kettles, often referred to as kama in Japanese.
