FINE! Japanese vintage cast iron kettle For Tea ceremony signed with copper lid with pain three "Shinnari-gama" hand craft with Box W8.3in/W21cm.
This 茶釜/Chagama Tea kettle has a shape known as a 真形釜 shinnari- kettle, and was made by the famous kettle maker "清光 Sato Seikou".
It is considered to be the most prestigious kettle of the kettle form that would have been the first to be used in the tea ceremony.
The true shape of the tea kettle was originally a hagama, a flat kettle used for cooking rice, made taller to hang over a fireplace, and with wings around the body, but the shape and style eventually changed with the development of 侘び茶 wabicha.
The seam-like line slightly below the center of this kettle is designed to remind us of the protruding feathers called “羽落 haochi” in the olden days. This is called a feather drop.
On the sides are beautiful reliefs of pine trees.
There is a hole near the shoulder to hang a ring with a demon's face on it, called a kan-nuki.
This size is basically recommended for use in a wind furnace.
The copper lid is also delicate and beautiful. The kettle is also signed in Kanji characters.
What is even more impressive about this kettle is that the surface of the kettle is coated with lacquer, which prevents water stains and other marks from forming on the surface, thus preserving the kettle's beauty for a long time. Only the finest kettles have this surface treatment. The excellence and ease of use of this kettle can be felt as soon as it is used.
