FINE! Japanese furniture Antique Box Chest of Drawers Tansu with key INKSTONE case Suzuribako SAMURAI Crest metal 1870s W14.4in/W36.5cm.

This is a wonderful inkstone box, one of the many that are made of very high quality. First of all, it is very unusual in that it has a lockable drawer in the back as well as the front.
Furthermore, the metal fittings are decorated with a family crest pattern, which gives it a special feel. The year 1870 (Meiji 3) is written in Chinese characters on the back.
Overall, it has a cool look due to its age.
It is in very good condition and ready to use, although there are some stains and scratches due to age, and the metal fittings are damaged and rusted.
A key is also included.
When you open the top lid, there is a hole to put money in, which falls into the bottom drawer.
Old “suribako” in good condition are popular in Japan, and just placing them in a room as furniture can cool the atmosphere of the room.

This furniture is called "kakesuribako" (掛摺箱), which dates from the Edo period (1603-1868) to the early Meiji period (1868-1912).
In its standard form, the inner box is hung over the edge of the outer box, and can hold calligraphy tools, ink, and water, or drawers can be made to hold small items separately, or lids can be hung.

condition...
It is in good condition, but has stains and scratches from age. It also does not have a key. The top lid requires a strong push on the knob to open and close. Part of a small drawer front is missing. The hardware is also damaged and rusted.
None of these are problematic for use and are ready to use.

I list antiques that sometimes have chips, rubbings and cracks
as they are very old antiques so please check the images and understand the current
condition before buying.
