FINE! Japanese cast iron kettle For Tea ceremony with a copper lid, "Shinnari-gama" signed Famous Kettle Master Box 1970s W10in/W25.5cm.

茶釜Chagama. This kettle has a shape called the 真形 Shin-nari kettleand was made by “Sato Jokei” who studied under a famous kettle master who was also a living national treasure. His name is engraved on the side. It is also considered the most prestigious form of kettle that would have been the first to be used in a tea ceremony.
It is characterized by a rather small mouth and taut shoulders, and there is a hole near the shoulder to hang a ring with a devil's face called a kan-nuki. It has a sturdy stability and presence. Basically, it is a slightly larger size made for use in a furnace.

This kettle also features a ground pattern on the side. It is a very beautiful kettle.
The artist, Sato Jokeiyo (1916-1996), was apprenticed to a living national treasure tea kettle master, and he himself has been honored many times by the government. He was also awarded the title of “Okama-shi” (master of tea kettles) by 大徳寺 Daitokuji Temple. This title is given to a kama-shi who understands the spirit and traditional culture of the tea ceremony and expresses them in his kettles, and is a very high honor.
The copper lids are also delicate and beautiful. The kettle is also signed in Kanji characters.
What is even more impressive about this kettle is that the surface of the kettle is coated with lacquer, which prevents water stains and other marks from forming on the kettle and keeps it beautiful for a long time. Only the finest kettles have this surface treatment. The excellence and ease of use of this kettle can be felt as soon as it is used.
Comes complete with original wooden box and removable handle on ring.
