This is a vase made of copper named 曽呂利 SORORI.
The origins of the name "sorori" are said to be numerous.
In Japanese, the word sorori means slowly and quietly.
It is also said to be the nickname of one of the vassals of the warlord Hideyoshi. He was a sword sheath maker by trade, and it is said that when the sheath he presented to Hideyoshi matched the sword perfectly, the sound was so slow and quiet that his retainer nicknamed him Sorori.
It is said that Hideyoshi was so fond of his retainer that he used his name for the vase he used for tea ceremonies.
This piece was crafted by the fourth-generation Seion at the workshop in Okubo, Kashiwazaki City, which has continued since the Edo period. Its specialty lies particularly in the technique known as “speckled purple copper” (hanshido), which uses the power of flame to bring out irregular purple patterns on the surface of copperware. 
This color features a unique, elegant deep beige with a marbled purple pattern hinting at pink.
It is ideal for beautifully displaying a single flower and has been used in Japanese tea ceremonies.
