FINE! Japanese antique Dragon Bronze stick incense burner stand with Dragon Surrounding Design metal craft Buddhist alter / calligraphy brush stand 1900s W4.1in/W10cm.

This is a very precisely made copper stick incense stand. It can also be used as a calligraphy brush stand.
It was made between the late Meiji and Taisho periods.
宗甫Nakao Sobo was a Japanese Buddhist artisan active during the Edo period. He was primarily involved in the production of Buddhist ritual objects used in Buddhist religious ceremonies and is known as an important figure in the creation of Buddhist ritual objects because of his skill and artistic talent.
These were made in his workshop during the Meiji and Taisho periods. It is a wonderful work of art that inherits his meticulous expressiveness.
The three-dimensional design of a single dragon surrounding the censer is very cool. The three legs are lions and elaborately made.
This was originally made as a set of Buddhist ritual utensils. Other similar items by the same artist are also listed. This is a single item.
It is said that dragons were introduced from China but merged with snake worship in Japan. In Japan, dragons are considered to be deities themselves. Dragons govern the forces of heaven and earth, and if cherished, are said to bring good fortune such as a good harvest and prosperous business. The reverse side is signed in Kanji characters. The distinctive three-dimensional dragon is wonderfully sculpted. It is massive and luxurious, making it an ideal gift.
