This is a very precisely made Buddhist vase. It is also recommended for holding up a large brush. It was made between the late Meiji and Taisho periods. 宗甫Nakao Sobo was a Japanese Buddhist artisan active during the Edo period. He was primarily involved in the production of Buddhist ritual objects used in Buddhist religious ceremonies and is known as an important figure in the creation of Buddhist ritual objects because of his skill and artistic talent. These were made in his workshop during the Meiji and Taisho periods. It is a wonderful work of art that inherits his meticulous expressiveness. The three-dimensional design of a single dragon surrounding the censer is very cool. The three legs are lions and elaborately made. This was originally made as a set of Buddhist ritual utensils. Other similar items by the same artist are also listed. This is a single item. It is said that dragons were introduced from China but merged with snake worship in Japan.
