Japanese antique bronze mirror Kagami with relief of old pine tree and Kanji with wooden case Geisha accessory SAMURAI Edo 1800s H12.7in/H32.3cm.

This item was used as a mirror by geisha in Japan long ago.
It comes in a case made of wood and lacquer.

This item was made in the late Edo period. It is inscribed with the name of 藤原政重Fujiwara Masasige, a famous craftsman of making mirrors in Kanji characters.
Pine trees are beautifully relieved. Inscribed in the center is "高砂Takasago" in Kanji characters. Takasago" is one of the Noh plays. The pine tree called "Aioi no Matsu" is located at Takasago Shrine in Takasago City, Hyogo Prefecture. The story is a very happy Noh play that celebrates the love between a married couple and their long life.
It is derived from that Noh play and has been widely used in Japan as a symbolic term for longevity and conjugal love.

It is in very good condition, but there are small scratches and dirt due to aging. And there is age damage, peeling lacquer, and rust on the metal. There is no major damage.
